Default Hard class

I just got my final mark back for a psych class I was taking. I got a B+ and have the second highest percentage grade in the class by one percent. The class is 101 people and I think it's pretty unreasonable that no one was able to get an A of any sort. His exams were pretty difficult and I'm a dean's list student. Is there any point in complaining and hoping to get the marks curved? He's already said not to ask for extra marks because it isn't fair to the other students.

I'd complain to the dean.

If an entire class of 101 students isn't capable of meeting this professor's definition of "excellent" or whatever an A-/A translates to, then he needs to adjust his scale.

Professors like this piss me off, because they don't get how grades count for grad school and scholarships, etc.

whenever you're done with the class start the complaining process. approach the prof and be super courteous. expect him to reject you, but if you approach him right he should be more susceptible to any pressure from the dean you can get.

also, you could ask for a letter from him explicitly stating you were the #2 student in the 101 person class for later use.

edit: be careful how you use this letter though. you could easily come off as a whiner.

wow thats ridiculous. don't ask for extra marks, ask for him to curve it so his class becomes reasonably fair.

if i had a class like this (which I have),the test is always curved, assuming the average is low (low being at best 70% usually).. although its possible your professor is a total dick and wont curve at all, in which case it doesnt matter what u say bc ur not getting more points, therefore forget it

Instead of going straight to the dean, work your way up. First, talk to your dept Head/Chair. If that doesn't work (and if probably won't), go to the Associate Dean. Then the Dean.
