Angband > Nethack

ToME > Angband

Or if you don't like the direction ToME took, NPPAngband > Angband, too.

Nethack's a bit silly and for most players has very high variance. Angband rewards patience and grinding it out.

Might and Magic 6 (PC). That game rocked.

BGII, as mentioned, was very good gameplay as well.
NeverWinterNights didn't quite live up to BGII, IMO, but the online was pretty cool. I could see Build-your-own-world stuff, if managed well, running strong and gaining popularity in the future.

On that note, anyone tried out NWN II? Saw it on the shelves the other day...
