What are some good N. Calif poker rooms outside of big cities?
I'm gona be road tripping thru North California next month, from Monterey up to near Oregon and back to Yosemite, and I'd like to visit several poker rooms/casinos along the way. I'm wanting to take back roads tho, avoid all the big cities (except San Fran). 4/8 limit and 1/2 NL, nothing fancy, just a place to relax, play some poker, maybe spend the night.. and away from all the big city crap. thx.. Just about every place of any size - and some of no size at all - along your way will have low limit poker. Up 101 there are several Indian casinos. It could take you a week to make the trip to the Oregon Coast depending on how often you stop to play cards.
In the central valley on your way back toward Yosemite there is worthwhile poker in Redding, Oroville, Sacramento, and Oakdale. If you are interested in deviating an hour or so from the path to Yosemite there are a dozen or more additional rooms to play in. I do need to ask though, why Yosemite in October? It will be uncrowded, sure, but the waterfalls will be dry and the high country may or may not be accessible (we just had 2 days of snow already). If you are a rock climber, never mind, carry on etc. |

cher-ae heights casino in Trinidad is a good spot. They have a daily tournament ($10-$20 + 1 rebuy)at 6pm I think and then usually get a pretty juicy cash game after it. Small casino but friendly people.

I only played at the casino once, but I had a good time. |

Thanks for the replies everybody.. exactly the kind of info I'm looking for. Why Yosemite in October? Well, I've never been there, and its prob the only chance I'll have to visit.. so why not? I'll be on a motorcycle this trip tho so if its snowing then that'll keep me out. Ride my cycle all day, play poker all night, repeat for a month.. should be fun! take care.. BB |

Re: What are some good N. Calif poker rooms outside of big cities?
There is a spot in Merced Ca, on the 140 on the way to Yosemite. There are about 6 tables. There is a freeroll with rebuys in the am and a 3-6 game most of the day as well as a 2-4 NL game I think. There is also a 30+3 tourney in the evening. I think it is called the Merced Cardroom. There is another called poker flats, but I never played there.
If your coming down the 99, there is another room before Merced called The Turlock Poker Room, www.turlockpoker.com . I haven't played there, but everyone who I have played that normally plays there, doesn't know crap about cards. They have always been whiney pansies that can't take a bad beat and generally don't know the rules. I'm not saying that is how their room is, but the 10 or so people that I have played with from there, including a dealer I think, have all fit the description above. |
