Default Recommend me good foreign/independent/lesser-known movies!

I'm getting totally bored of Hollywood stuff, what are your favourite movies that I've likely never seen?

Go here and start picking out random movies. Don't read the whole reviews unless you don't mind being spoiled. I've seen ~75% of the films on that list and most have been superb.

My favorite foreign films are The Bicycle Thief and Yojimbo.

It is really f'ed up, and some people probably would strongly disagree, but "The Dreamers", its a bertolucci film.

Also see "Brazil". You may have seen this already though if you are really into movies. Also see "Leon", in the USA called The Professional. It was phenominal. It has Natalie portman when she is like 12? Jean Reno also. And Gary Oldman. One of my favorite movies, and it is SO GOOD.

Jules et Jim is good if you're in the right mood.

I'll second Rififi.
There's a movie called The General with Brendan Gleeson and directed by John Boorman that's about a famous Irish gangster named Martin Cahill that I like.

This is one of the best suggestions I've ever heard about anything.

Personal favorites of mine from that list are "Ikiru", "Tokyo Story" and "Fanny and Alexander"
