Missing quiz for sping break, any way around this?

For some reason my math professor scheduled a Quiz for the 1st day of classes after spring break is over. I understand/don't mind exams and quizzes on the last day before break, but the first day after break seems retarded to me. I'd made travel plans in January for break and will not be back in time for that class/quiz. Considering I'm kinda nitty about grades, I really don't want a 0, even though it's just a quiz (they count 10%), any conceivable excuse that can be used here to a professor that doesn't give make up quizzes?

If you had brought it to his attention a few weeks ago maybe he would've done something, but most teachers respond really poorly to being given a weeks notice that you're going to miss something. I'd definitely talk to him and if he's unwavering just let it go and take the 0. A lot of teachers will have respect that you were willing to take responsibility and while they'll still give you the 0 they may go easier on you later thus negating its effects.

At this point I would wait until the day before the quiz and email him that you are stuck at the airport due to delays and are unable to catch a flight back in time. It might even make you look good because you are going out of your way to contact him/remember about the quiz.

ask if you can be excused dont go with a fake excuse, just be honest about your situation

Ask in advance; don't wait until the last minute. Granted, the odds of your professor answering your e-mail before break are basically zero, but it's worth a shot.

It isn't, it's just that the OP chose to come back a date late rather than leave a day early... or *gasp* not miss a day!

Talk to the teacher as soon as possible, but don't blame you missing the test on him or call it "retarded." You are scheduled for class that day, that means he doesn't have to do [censored] for you unless you are in a hospital.
