Re: House to Debate Impeachement of Vice President Cheney?
[ QUOTE ]
I guess I'm confused on what they were voting on. I thought the vote was on asking the Judiciary committee to investigate impeaching Cheney and a yea vote was a vote to do this. Furthermore, I thought referring this to committee was part of the GOP master plan. However, you're saying the GOP was voting nay? [/ QUOTE ] Bill was going to win either way. |

And the Republicans wanted to have a house vote. But it is all very confusing. |

Re: House to Debate Impeachement of Vice President Cheney?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Why would it matter--he would just get pardoned anyway if it somehow got legs. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Article 2 - The Executive Branch Section 2 - Civilian Power Over Military, Cabinet, Pardon Power, Appointments The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] I was mistaken on that front. I guess I don't see it enough (which is a good thing, at least most of the time). |

Re: House to Debate Impeachement of Vice President Cheney?
[ QUOTE ]
is this going down or what? i hate that man [/ QUOTE ] Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer successfully got the bill refferred to the House Judiciary Committee. It will be the goal of the Democrats to let the bill die there with nothing ever being said about it again. Hoyer was able to convince more than 80 Democrats (mostly strong liberals) who had previously voted on debating impreachemnt rather than tabling (killing) the bill to refer the bill to committee. This issue is dead unless the liberal grass roots can force the Democrats' hand. But, it was a fun hour or so. |

[/ QUOTE ] yeah, i hear that a lot from liberals I know, then when I ask them to explain their hatred they give me this look like 'are you serious?' and then tell me something about him being evil complete with shot in the face comment. They can never answer my question. |

i ll be interested to see what Dr. Paul has to say about all this. [/ QUOTE ] http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/index.asp Paul voted against his party every time so he apparently wanted no part of the political games played by the Republicans today. |

Re: House to Debate Impeachement of Vice President Cheney?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] However, it appears Republicans have switched votes in large #s, presumably to give the far-left an opportunity to expose their radicalism without actually putting Cheney at risk. [/ QUOTE ] Or maybe Republicans realize their party is in trouble and Cheney has disgraced it and they might extricate themselves more smoothly from this history if they have a fall guy? [/ QUOTE ] No. That's definitely not the reason. They're hoping to expose the far left's influence over the Democratic Party. [/ QUOTE ] If only the far left did have some control of that party. |
