Re: Chess Study: Game #1 : The Immortal Game
[ QUOTE ]
Maybe you can get a chess section on the wiki? Would make sense to put books, problems etc. there. [/ QUOTE ]I'm fine with it, but given the amount of possible chess information, it might be more efficient to just have a few pages aggregating links to more complete resources. |

Of course, archiving links to games and study sessions on here would be excellent, too.

Re: Chess Study: Game #1 : The Immortal Game
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 is known as the Philidor Defence. (Yes, I looked it up.) Wiki says: "After 3.d4 Black has several options. One of the most common is 3...exd4, an old move that was abandoned for a while but has been revived... Black should not play 3...Bg4?, as he will be forced to trade bishop for knight with serious loss of time after 4.dxe5 Bxf3 5.Qxf3 dxe5 6.Bc4, followed by 7. Qb3. The "natural" 6... Nf6 costs a pawn."

BTW, you got your names wrong. This is known as the Opera Game. Here are some great notes about it: wiki
Maybe we can look at the Immortal Game next. |

Re: Chess Study: Game #1 : The Immortal Game
oh well, my bad. I chose the game because it was a short game and it would give us an idea on how to proceed. I would like to choose other games that haven't been analyzed to death and give us an endgame to play with
If you are interested in the Philidor's Defense This is an excellent reference for you http://www.exeterchessclub.org.uk/Openings/lessphld.htm I think because this was such a short game, and already very heavily analyzed that we can probably move on to the next game soon. I have a game picked out that we can use next time, but I'd love to hear options from other guys. I'd like to avoid games that are in Logical chess move by move books, simply because we have the analysis right there. And there are tons of games out there by top level GMs that we can analyze |
