I think for my test, 95% was like a 167, does that sound right?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep.

I agree with everything in your last post. I just wanted to clarify your earlier point.

There was an interesting profile on lawschoolnumbers of a black guy that had a 3.5 and a 167.

He got into HLS, Columbia, Stanford....listing that he was black.

Then he got into Georgetown, and ended up going there because he didn't report that he was black, so he felt that he got in on his own merits.

I was gonna hate on him for being black+college republicans+ getting into HLS with those stats, but I thought that was an interesting little experiment.

I remember it being crushing, typing my numbers into lawschoolnumbers.com and thinking hey "15 of 27 people got into harvard with my stats!" then realizing that like 13 of the 15 were minorities.

I remember reading that. It was very interesting to see a minority conduct that experiment himself. If I recall correctly, he said from the getgo he had no intention of going to Harvard and the like.

1) 95% on the LSAT will get you laughed at by T14 schools.

[/ QUOTE ]

Noah, you have done a lot of great work in these LSAT threads so please don't take this the wrong way. But I think this is flat-out wrong (and not because I was 95th percentile for the June 11 test and still hope to go top-14).

Anecdotally, I know of several people at places like NYU and Virginia who were in the 95th percentile.

And if you look at the US News numbers, there are plenty of top-14 schools where 95th percentile of LSAT scores is within the 25th percentile to 75th percentile range

[/ QUOTE ]

Even if you disregard racial discrimination, those admissions numbers are deceiving. Sure 50% of the people at XYZ top law school got below a certain score, but what percent of applicants with that score actually got in? Just because 50% of the students admitted to XYZ Law School got admitted with a mediocre score doesn't mean 50% of those with a mediocre score got admitted.

Some will get in with those scores...the rest will be laughed at.

Obviously, I understand this. It's just the "laughed at" part that I take exception with. I think using that phrasing mischaracterizes the situation.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your best/worst section?

How many points off on the puzzles? These are the easiest to get better at, although all sections can be mastered.

Above average already!

But seriously, keep working at it. If you were happy with your initial score, you wouldn't need time to prepare in the first place.

I have to teach a PS class this weekend. I feel sorry for anyone taking it. I haven't even looked at this [censored] in over a year.

It's all going to depend on you. Some people are just pretty good at it.

I asked my brother to pick me up a book, and he got me the McGraw-Hill one. I took a diagnostic, scored 161. I read the book and took 2 practise tests over the course of a week and got 166 and 170. I took the real LSAT and got 165. Meh.

It is going to depend a lot on your natural abilities, but if I can do it in a week, it is most certainly possible for you to do it over several months.
