Default Need Help finding something to believe in

Okay, for starters i'm an atheist. I think that life is pretty meaningless and when you die, thats it, you're dead. Today i talked to my shrink about it for a while. She said that i need to find something to believe in (she mentioned that god was obv not the answer for me), so i could shake deep depression. When i prodded her on what to believe, she said that she couldn't tell me, that i'd have to figure it out for myself and ask others what they believe in.

So SMP, what i'm asking is, what do you believe in? If you're an atheist (which i'm fairly certain a large portion of you are), how do you cope with the emptiness of life?

Global warming appears to work for a lot of people.

You feel empty because you have missed the whole point of life. Of course, people can create their own purpose for life - but in the end they always look the same selfish.. hellish types of purposes that leave you wanting.

Life does have a purpose and a meaning and I can even tell you where to begin looking, at the person of Jesus Christ.
You can become a completely new creation and leave all this behind whenever you want.

My meaning in life is going to be marrying my girlfriend, and trying to spend as much time as i can sitting around enjoying my time with her, probably having kids also, and seeing as much of the world as I can while i have time.

i've always been one of those hellish types i guess.

Those things are part of God's plan and are indeed good things. But life is meant to be about much more than our own pleasure and enjoyment. Those acts are not hellish one iota, but living solely for them is.

In the end if you live for these things you will leave this world wanting, as you have missed the point of life, to know and love God.
