Maximum Overdrive is [censored] hilarious.

God help me, I paid money to see that in the theater. Firestarter, too.

Maximum Overdrive is one of two movies I've walked out of in my entire life. I've seen it on video since, and framed as an unintended parody of horror movies it is [censored] great. The high point has to be poor Yeardley Smith (voice of Lisa Simpson) yelling to her BF/husband/whatever he is, "Curtis, CURTIS, CUUURRTTIIIIISSS, ARE YOU DEEEAAAAADDD?!?!?"

Pure gold.

If it's anything like the movie 'Dreamcatcher", I think I'll miss it. What a horribly disappointing movie.

I didn't see the movie (though I like Damian Lewis from Band of Brothers) but I didn't like the book at all, so it's not surprising that the movie wasn't well-received. Seems like Hollywood can turn good stories into bad movies, but can't turn bad stories into good movies.

I agree with the person that said the best Stephen King movies are the ones that are not touted as Stephen King movies. Can we include "The Shining"? Wasn't it made before anyone knew who King was?

[/ QUOTE ]

Carrie. King's first best seller and the first best based on King movie.

Just got out of this at a screening during lunch.

Overall I liked it, and I had read the story recently.

The characters overall work really well...Thomas Jane is a bit iffy as certain moments but he's decent as the main character. The supporting characters are really good.

CGI is ok, not great, given they had to do the cgi within the mist which is really really hard to do and make the cgi look legit.

Darabont makes two changes..one of them is major and involves the ending...I have a feeling most fans of the book won't like it at all, actually I don't think anyone will like it. The other is something shown in the trailer which people complained about.

Its still very very creepy...and i think overall it works. It feels like a small town, it feels like a Stephen King story..and the mist feels like death.

So overall I would recommend it but lower your expectations esp if u had read the book cuz yr gonna be disapointed.

I just read through this thread. It's funny:

"Hey, guys, Edgar Wright loved the ending, said it was somehow even better than the book."

"Hey, guys, the ending is one of the worst atrocities ever visited upon the art of film."

I don't know what to think. Guess I'll just have to see it myself.
