What % Of The Population Wants Online Poker banned?

If we polled everyone on the country, what % would actually vote YES to making online poker illegal? I'd guess 80/20 wanting it legal. People I know who don't play poker think the legal issues concerning poker are incredibly stupid.

most people i know that dont play think online gambling should be illegal. They put poker in with gambling.

I am smart enough to realize that I am in the minority, but...I would more than likely be considered part of the "Religious Right" (or maybe middle!). I play poker about 5 days a week and travel many, many miles a few times a year to play in casino's. I love the game of poker and have for years. So, there are a few of us "Religious" folks that would gladly vote to legalize it!

Reminds me of logic class in logic where all religious people don’t want online gambling banned, but all the people who want it online gambling banned are religious people.

NOTE: I realize this isn't 100% true, but fairly close.

Its not religious people who are loathed, not even evangelical christians. Its a subset of this group that quite blatantly believes that it is OK to POLITICALLY and LEGALLY impose their version of religiously inspired moralism on the rest of the folks who make up this country. Occasionally their "issues" overlap with non-religious "nanny-staters" who also believe that it is ok to impose POLITICALLY and LEGALLY their pet "we know better than the average poor slob" cause. Neither group is a majority in the US. Even together they probably make up only 35 some percent of the US.

Most Americans believe that as long as you are not directly harming someone, you should be able to do what you want for fun.

But most Americans dont vote either.

Anyway, loathing people who want to impose their religious views on others by using the power of the state is a good thing; and it is not the same thing as loathing people with religious views that they only advance through argument and example. I dont know anyone who loathes them.

These people that are so powerful when it comes time to "impose their religious views" on the rest of us unsuspecting citizens should be stopped from voting so they can't use the power of the state, right? How do we segregate them to end their impositions?

Who said anything about segregating them? I just want most people to accept that it is wrong to impose a value on others by threat of arrest and jail (or worse) SOLELY because your religion tells you it is wrong.

Things do overlap, of course, some religious values (like 'dont steal') also make good public policy. But that is how they should be debated in politics, as good or bad policy. I am sometimes amazed that the extreme christians seem to be OK with divorce and adultry (both highly condemned in the bible) as non-criminal offenses. It seems on those issues they realize that putting people in jail for these "moral lapses" is bad policy. But putting people in jail for gambling is OK?

My main point is that you cannot make public policy based solely on religion. They do that in Iran, and from what I hear it does not work very pleasantly. We either have to tolerate different religious views and thus make policy based on reason, or we have to kill or subjugate everyone who has a different religion.

I think the choice there is pretty easy, and thats why I loathe people who believe that simply becasue their religion states doing something is sinful, there ought to be a law against it. Unfortunately, there are a good number of those people in the US (and elsewhere) and here they are called "right-wing christians." In the middle east they are called "islamo-fascists."

The religious right votes 'Yes' to making it illegal.....And they'd be the only people out voting....You have to keep in mind that A LOT of people don't exercise their democratic right to vote. You've got 100,000 2+2ers vs 2.5million uneducated evangelicals who claim this is a moral issue concerning family values........

I think it would be more like 10% want it legal......75% don't care enough to vote.......and 15% do whatever their pastor tells them (MAKE IT ILLEGAL).
