throwing away large amounts of trash
I just moved (back) to San Francisco, and have generated a lot of trash (both boxes and rubbish) while unpacking. How should I dispose of this trash without paying someone to pick it up? I'm willing to load up my car with it and drive it somewhere, but where?

Re: throwing away large amounts of trash
Throw it away at a local college campus. They typically have a shiton of dumpsters around.

look for unlocked gas station dumpster, return later in day to dispose of trash but before the station closes (and therefore may lock dumpster)

Throw it in some stores dumpster [/ QUOTE ] The question is, where can I find such a dumpster in the city? |

Throw it in some stores dumpster [/ QUOTE ] Don't do that man. Mine is always locked but people still break the lid and squeeze their stuff in there. If I ever catch one of them I will be filling their car with all the garbage in the bin. Just a matter of time it is going to be sweet. It is different in each area but my local recycling depot lets me drop off cardboard, plastic, newspapers, and pretty much anything but household garbage for free if I sort it. |

Re: throwing away large amounts of trash
Hold on, I'll ask my neighbors. Every week, I kid you not, they have a veritable mountain of [censored] piled up a full day before garbage day, right on our property line and halfway across the sidewalk. Oh nevermind, I remember now - half of it ends up blown across my yard because it's sitting out in the weather for 30 hours before the garbage man comes.

Re: throwing away large amounts of trash
If you used a moving company to move you, call them up and ask if they can pick up your leftover boxes and paper if they're in the area after a job sometime soon. They will if it's not hugely inconvenient.
