How do you control the pot OOP?
Villain is a super fish, VPIP 60+, WtSD 40%, etc.
Party Poker No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.50/$1 8 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $98 UTG+1: $99.40 Hero: $124.35 MP2: $100 CO: $103.50 Button: $194.28 SB: $90.50 BB: $195.90 Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is MP1 with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, Hero raises to $4, 2 folds, Button calls, 2 folds, UTG+1 calls. Flop: K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($13.5, 3 players) UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $10, Button calls, UTG+1 folds. Turn: 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($33.5, 2 players) Hero bets $20, Button calls. River: T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ok, now what? At this point should I make another value bet? Check it down? I'm a little deeper than usual, so it seems like some sort of pot control is in order but I am not sure what would happen if he makes a big bet on the end. |

Re: How do you control the pot OOP?
Check the flop because it is as drawless as they come. It is unlikely the next card changes anything. If he bets then you call and have some information. If flop is checked through, value bet the turn and river.

frank, you really check the flop here? how often have you been doing that? [/ QUOTE ] I like this line, mainly because getting raised on the flop makes for a very difficult decision. It also squeezes some value from out of medium pairs and worse kings, and it cuts your losses when you're beat. Pretty standard wa/wb stuff, right? |

frank, you really check the flop here? how often have you been doing that? [/ QUOTE ] OOP, never. In position, I will do it if I think villain is a solid player or will take a a stab at the pot on the turn. OP asked how he could control the pot, not betting on that dry flop is one way. I don't believe that line is optimal, but it does keep the pot smaller most of the time. I think both of us would be happy to get our stacks in on the river with that board, but that wasn't what OP asked, was it? |

Re: How do you control the pot OOP?
Its 3 handed on the flop and we're not in position, theres no way I'm checking. I'd like to at least buy the button for the rest of the hand.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree with your line more than mine, but you didn't answer OP's question. How do you control the pot? It is a great question and I do not think there is a single best answer. |

Re: How do you control the pot OOP?
We have to judge in any given situation whether pot control>value or value>pot control. We can't have both.
On a board like this, where getting it AI seems okay... we choose value>pot control. If the flop is A34 with a flush draw and the turn is a 2 for a 3-flush... well, pot control>value. Maybe I am way wrong though. |

Re: How do you control the pot OOP?
Why bet less than the pot on the flop and turn?
