Wow, just as a visitor and registered user I guess I don't get the arguments against increasing this ban now that it has been decided upon.

It's my understanding that yvesaint repeatedly taunted the mods and pushed his luck as far as he possibly could - hey look at me, I'm a great contributor this this forum, I'm unbannable and if I get tossed everyone will come to my rescue. Unacceptable waste of time and volunteers' resources, and it sets a bad precedent.

Hutz, on the other hand, made a single, bizarre error in judgment and - to my knowledge - doesn't have a habit of pushing the envelope. He is clearly contrite and Gildwulf has already cited two examples of posters who learned their lesson and went on to better the forums with their contributions.

On top of all of this, Gildwulf has already posted to the masses how this is going down. I say he stays the course as any type of change of the ban will look like general mod/admin disagreement.

Just my take.

By the way, the Alobar ban happened 2X, I understand both were a month, and were for him posting a link to a site that from what I recall was some guy yelling "I'M WATCHING GAY PORN OVER HERE" and opening up countless copycat windows. People dumb enough to be surfing 2+2 while multitabling got super pissed, and it's probably a tossup between which is worse, crashing someone's computer (well, non-sophisticates who didn't know how to use ALT-F4) or being briefly subjected to the photo in this thread's OP. [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Alobar though, he is clearly a forum asset. A perma-ban there would have sucked.

I think you should leave it at 5 after it's been decided also. This guy seems unlikely to be a problem in the future whether it's 5 or 30. If he does it again, it's an easy permaban. So no point in seeming indecisive IMO.

GW,

I also agree with tub and Leader that once you've gone with 5 days at this point, esp. if you've announced it to BBV, then you should stick with it. I'd go with a month for next time. Hopefully there won't be a next time, but hey, it's BBV, so there probably will be.

MW,

"I'd go with a month for next time."

You don't think posting inline bestiality pics merits a permaban?

If not that, what does?

I tend to think that perma bans are for those people who just don't get it after they've been banned. I can't think of many non obvious spammer posts where I'd hand out a perma ban. It's when the same poster keeps trolling after their 4th suspension that the perma ban makes sense.

i disagree when we're talking about something as serious as inline bestiality. i think that the 2nd time not the 4th should be grounds for bye bye

daryn,

I'm repeating myself here, but I strongly think that posting inline bestiality is in a category of stuff that should just lead to auto-nuking of an account. Everyone can get many second chances by signing up for another account. But I just believe that for certain types of offenses, accounts should be nuked, period.

I guess I'm just old-fashioned like that.

All,

I also think that posting inline horse porn is worse than anything PITTM did, yet he's ban-on-sight and this guy gets a five day break.

I'm of course not rallying behind PITTM, I fully understand what a pain in the ass he was and understand why Mat considers him a net negative to the site.

But, nonetheless, if I had to choose which of those two guys to permaban, it would be the one who posted a picture of horse porn one time rather than the one who was repeatedly an annoying pain in the ass.
