Re: Weird spot with friend and possible jailtime
I say lend him the money.
Of course I only say this in anticipation of future updates where people suggest hired goons and other amusing situations |

Re: Weird spot with friend and possible jailtime
I can see why you MIGHT be considering this, but the best question to ask here is, if YOU didn't have 6k to lend him, what would he do? That should be his correct play. You cannot rely nor expect a friend to ever help someone out in a situation like this. He broke a law, and after he has been caught, seemingly expects someone to cover his [censored] with money? Its not your problem homey, let him sort his own [censored] out.
edit: I can maybe understand giving a close friend some money for a lawyer....MAYBE... but thats it in a situation like this! |

You cannot rely nor expect a friend to ever help someone out in a situation like this. [/ QUOTE ] I think this is pretty wrong. If one of my friends ever gets themselves into a jam, I'd definately go out of my way to help them out, and I fully expect them to do same for me. This is what differentiates friends from aquaintences/strangers IMO. |

Besides, those cashier thieves usually spend the money in drugs or gambling. Unless they are women, when they could also spend it in clothes that is the same thing. And would you ever trust a drug addict or gambler? [/ QUOTE ] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KERwnA8VfFM |

I wouldn't trust a kid who stole $6,000 to pay me back. Also, it's kind of a dick move on your friends part to put you in the spot by even asking. [/ QUOTE ] Yea man, get new friends. |

If he stole $6000 once, how do you know he won't do it again, this time from you?

Re: Weird spot with friend and possible jailtime
Assuming you trust the friend who asked you to do it, say ok, but if the theif doesn't pay you back by x date, the 6k is owed to you by your buddy, and set up a payment plan for that scenario. If he thought asking you to loan the money was appropriate, this request feels appropriate. I'd probably ask for small % as well.

[ QUOTE ] Is it worth $6000 to you to never see these friends again? [/ QUOTE ] Why would OP want/need friends like this? Also, it is pretty shady by your friend to ask you to lend the guy 6k when you are not even friends with him. Dont do it imo [/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure you understood my post. |
