88 UTG wtf hand

button is a drooler that probably shoved with A3o, I have no idea what the cold caller has, but I think its about 50/50 monster/some pretty suited trash that he wants to see a flop with. This table was really REALLY bad. What am I doing here?

Hmmm this is a tough one. You have no FE after the raises, and the middle position calls could be anything, and now that the BB and the button are in and the middle position people behind you, I fold. And I wouldn't raise this PF.

If the table is as bad as u say, just limp pre. As played i'd def fold here BB's coldcalling range (even if he's loose/not so good) has u dominated often and u have no FE to iso button with a shove. If BB folds then shove (and hope that MP2 doesn't have 99...cause he might be calling too.)

Don't raise 88 pre with your stack size, save it for re-steals instead. Fold when it comes back to you.

come on - he has 26BB - sure he can raise 88 preflop.

as played here this is an easy fold.

Well, I admit that it ain't that bad. But against the opponents he described, I assume they call to much pre-flop, and how do you proceed on a board that probably flops at least one overcard? Assume you normally get 2 callers, then you have to fire out a c-bet of around 300. All of a sudden you're down to 850. I'd rather open-limp 88 here and hope to flop a set.

c-betting is only one option - with one overcard i would also consider a check/raise - depending on the action before me.

i would never say that limping a medium PP in early position is a wrong or bad play...but it's only rarely my play.

an utg limp has usually 2 possible outcomes:

1.) you get a bunch of limpers - with a PP you need to make a set or you can't continue - if you hit the set it's fine, cause you will often find someone who pays you off.

2.) you get raised - there you have many possible ways to go. if it's a single raiser you can according to his range - push, call (against a tight player only if stacks are deep enough) or even fold. against a raiser, with multiple callers it's similar to point 1.

the problem is (like often with passive play) that you are in most situations dependent on the cards you see on the flop.

i think with raising preflop you have more choices to play, even if you don't hit the flop.

with 26BB i think it's simply style-dependant which way you like to go.

I like the raise preflop (not agreeing with the idea that this stack size is more suitable to resteals - we have too much for that, it's actually a pretty good stealing stack) & the fold here. Sure it's annoying when they both turn over hands you're ahead of, & by the sounds of it that's possible, but I don't think it happens often enough.

I am a very tight player, I'd limp it preflop, and fold to all the action you're seeing around the table. When you run into a table like this, you have to be a total nit because these people will pay of your big hands anyway. There may be some people at your table who aren't playing so horribly and if you use poker tracker you'll know who to take more seriously on preflop action (I just got ptracker, can't believe they allow it, sick reads)
