how accurately do REITs (real estate investment trusts) follow the overall real estate market performance. are they worth investing in? Thoughts anyone.

Useful as a small portion of your portfolio (less than 10%) for diversification.

REITs are interest rate sensitive. FWIW it seems like the yields are too low for the risk involved. However, with due dilligence and lots of investigation, good buys exist I'm sure. REITs were super undervalued in the middle of the last recession. Made a nice bundle on both MREits and equity REITs.
