Locals start and keep the cash games running in rooms like yours and just about everything that can be done to run them off has been done. Little comps, freeroll is not on par with other small rooms. High hand jackpots are tiny compared to what must go in the badbeat jackpot drop. Lot's of locals will sit and grind for hours to qualify for a good freeroll, look at some of the rooms that attract them. As everyone knows the location is poor but the locals will come if you cater to them. If you are looking at the profit side, the times I have played there it seemed like there were a lot of bosses for a small room, room manager, tourney director, floor manager, do you really need all these people? Antes in a tourney of this size don't make sense. They slow everything way down, you are dealing with a bunch of folks who have never played live before and when the dealer has to remind half the table to ante every hand it is slooow. The structure and 17% is about average for the size buyin. Good luck hope you can improve the room.

Randy aka RR said:

I find it offensive that you would come here asking for advice. I worked at the Stratosphere until they closed the poker room on March 1, 2001. They cheated me out of earned vacation time and refused to return my calls. When they reopened the room they chose to go with a known thief as the manager and now they want advice. If they really want advice on how to improve their poker room I can work out a consulting fee with them.

And this is your reply:

i appreciate all the feedback and apologize to randy if he feels offended.

[/ QUOTE ]

This apology is meaningless. My advice to you is to make an attempt to get Randy his backpay plus interest. The integrity of a Poker room is paramount and yours apparently has none.

Also, I am surprised at the 2+2'ers who are still trying to help you out after Randy's post. I am fairly new to 2+2 but I see the time and effort that RR puts in as a mod here. I respect his opinions and dedication. I think we should stand behind him and not offer help to a representative of a room that screwed him over unless and until they make it right. Perhaps that is easy for me to say because I live on the east coast and the outcome won't affect me - but I hope I would say the same thing if I lived in LV.

OP is an analyst, not King of the Stratosphere. It's hardly his obligation to champion the cause of former employees.

Give me a break. RR is all grown up and can fight his own battles. If it was a huge deal to him, he would/should have brought suit to recover what's owed.

All I will say about that is they had a great relationship with the online community and chose to close the poker room to repalce it witih empty space because they didn't want poker players in their casino. I have no idea if the people that thought empty space was better than a profitable poker room are still there or not.

Bob Stupak built the Stratosphere didn't he? That should have set off alarm bells in your head.

I play at a place that's ahead of the Strat but trying very hard to get better.

I've seen them do a couple things that have helped that have nothing to do with your structure.

Give aways - Have em. The place I play has more people than yours but they give out a ticket to every player playing every hour. Then every two hours they give away $100. You may not be able to justify that on the number of people you bring in so maybe make it $50 or a comp for 2 to a buffet etc.

Another thing in the tournies I play they give "tourney tickets" away to the top couple in each tourney. These tourney tickets are worth $100 and are transferable. Maybe you could make your $60. So basically if you get in the top 2 or 3 in your tourney you get a free entry into another one. Maybe good for 30 days?

I feel you might get some loyal locals with incentives like these.

Bring back Bob Stupak and make him the poker host.
