Default Train service to AC from NYC coming

Today, NY Transit approved a 3-year trial of direct train service from NYC Penn Station to AC. (Previously, you had to go through Philly.) It will be called "Atlantic City Express Service" and will run Friday through Sunday, beginning in late 2007. AC casino operators will subsidize the operation so no additional costs are placed on NJ Transit. The plan is an effort to attract a more desirable demographic (than bus patrons), and to bypass the Philly slot parlors.

Wow, they REALLY need to do something like this from Washington, D.C. to AC.

I hope it's a decent price. If it's 100 bucks or something, it might make it a bit less palatable being only slightly faster than the bus.

Still, I think it's great.

I doubt it will be that expensive - the train from Phila to AC is 7.25 each way.

Very true.

Although the Amtrak to Philly is about 70, I think.

Man I've been waiting for this. I absolutely hate the bus system. It's long and has terrible crowds most of the time. The only advantage is the coupons/cash they offer. Hopefully there will be the same type of price structure for the train and same type of comp.

I read this sunday...I have to imagine they will give cash back or make the price reasonable enough that players will take this instead of the bus or car...

Yesterday's stories said they had the limo and helicopter set in mind..."people who aren't going to take the bus". Hopefully they'll realise that there's a whole set of people who'll take the bus but would happily switch to a similarly priced alternative.

Or they could make it 15 each way (no comp) to price out some of the undesirables from taking it and encourage new people to go to AC that didn't want to drive or deal with the bus system. This is the same reason Borgata doesn't offer direct bus service.

I could be way off but I doubt they will give comps with the train - it will drop players off at the Convention Center where there are free jitneys to casinos that just drop you off. It isn't like the busses where they take you to a depot and there is a greeter, etc.

Still - I'd rather be comfortable and forgo the comp (as long as it's a reasonable price). But that's me.
