Taking Advantage of Edges - How little of an edge do u need
guys
been involved in another thread on pxf that i wanted all of your expert opinions heres the set up - post there where the hand in question hero has qq, theres lots of action and comes back to hero with an all in, 3400 in the pot and hero has 1700 left - getting 2 to 1. Annette puts villain on jj+ and ak which gives about 50% odds but says shed'd fold "I'll pass up small edges like that cuz i think im a better player than most of these guys... meaning that i dont wanna let faith decide whether or not im still in the tourney after this hand... pot odds is not that important in tourneys and i dont care if my equity is 54% here or whatever. Ive never used any pokertools yet and i dont plan to either. If i could be the one shoving adding some fold equity to the pot, then sure, but i never call of my stack if i think im flipping and have a lot of chips left to play with unless im playing against better players that i know will take advantage of having a big stack." Now i get it for the premium players but passing up these odds for someone of my skill level I dont believe is sound poker. This strikes me this is a "tourney life" debate which i despise but wanted to throw it out to you all to see if i'm missing it or is getting 2 to 1 on a flip something that shouldnt be passed up editorial note - clearly theres alot of info about reads, position etc intentionally left out. this isnt really about the hand in question and more about "tourney life versus edges"

[/ QUOTE ] you hit the nail on the head there. and I think she's still wrong if she is that much better than other players. greg raymer would disagre with her. you have to take your edges when you find them. part of being a better player is recognizing when you have an edge and taking advantage of it. by passing up flips, she's giving up chips in the long run.

if skill is defined as making the most $ wouldn't the ability to accurately see these edges and push them to the max be skill.

i rarely pass up a perceived edge. the circumstaces have to be unusual, or it's a satellite or something. i'd say something like 'the players have to be really bad for me to pass it up' but no, not really. i could be playing six year olds and i'll still call getting 2-1 when i'm 50%

Who cares about pot odds when you could be knocked out of the tournament?
