One I've heard several times is organ donors are more likely to die from injuries sustained in car crashes than are non-organ donors.

Someone debunk plz.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've heard this one too from several med school friends, but never seen any stats or anything. I assume the theory is the doctors subconsciously won't try as hard to save someone if they know they're a donor.

[/ QUOTE ]

this one never made sense to me. "i think i'll let this guy die, because his organs could save another guy!" it makes absolutely no sense at all. you're letting one guy die to save another guy? you could just save the guy who you're letting die! only way it could possibly make sense is if the doctor had a family member or friend on the organ list.

It makes sense if the organ donor will be all f'd up he lives (brain damage, paralysis, etc.) and the other guy will be just fine if he gets a new a liver or whatever.

Impurities in water do affect its boiling and freezing points.

One I used to hear at the poker table all the time when the US started issuing new-style currency was that the little plastic strips in c-notes were designed to be tracked by sattelites so that the government would know how much cash we had. They were also designed to trip the sensors at airport security checkpoints.

I think that urban legends are much better when they can evoke a sense of paranoia. Let's have a contest to see who can invent the best one...

I've heard many times that you can kill a person with a open palm strike to the nose. This is a myth. The nose cartiledge is not strong enough to penetrate the skull. However, a person can die from severe blunt head truama.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sure this is true. The nose cartilage would only need to penetrate the cribiform plate, which is a pretty thin piece of bone. However, even if it did penetrate, it would damage the frontal lobes, which is not in itself fatal. So you may be right, but I'm not sure about your reason.

I researched this one last year. Got into a discussion about it with my girlfriend.

Adding salt has a negligible effect. In fact it actually takes slightly LONGER to boil with salt in it.

We really need to work in inventing one and then we should all work on trying to spread it via other websites, word of mouth. It would be hilarious if it ended up coming back to you through someone that heard it elsewhere. Its gotta be really good though.
