Re: 1-2NL Bankroll
[ QUOTE ]
I want to play 1-2NL and not go bust. What kind of starting bankroll do I need. I was thinking 2500. What you think? [/ QUOTE ] a little light 5k would be a nicer number |

Re: 1-2NL Bankroll
If the max buyin is $200 and you buyin for the max, then $2500 should be more than enough, considering you're a good player. If you're lossy goosey and like to play a lot of hands, even for raises then you'll need more that a tight player

Re: 1-2NL Bankroll
If its just a poker bankroll and you wont be living out of it, $2500 is a plently big enough bankroll for live 1/2nl...

Re: 1-2NL Bankroll
Well if this is the case you need to have a lot more money than 2,500. What happends if you go broke? It seems to me that all you have to your name is 2,500...

Re: 1-2NL Bankroll
[ QUOTE ]
If you are a losing player, no bankroll is adequate--you will go broke. If you are break-even player, you will eventually go broke from variance. If you are a steady grinder with a steady win rate and low variance, you can get by with a modest bankroll. If you're an action junkie, but still a winning player, the large variance will require a larger bankroll. As well, your tolerance for going broke has to be factored in; if you're ok with a 20% chance of going broke, your bankroll can be far smaller than if you demand a <1% chance of ruin. "Risk of ruin" is the magic buzzword. Let google be your guide. [/ QUOTE ] Also, another approach which I don't see here is one mentioned in "Math. of Poker" book. Namely, figure what your winrate, say it is $20 per hour. Then pay yourself $10 per hour and use the rest to account for variance and bankroll. Because if your winrate is $20/hr and you take out all your winnings, you will 100% go broke. |

Of course this assumes you take all your winnings and pump them back into your bankroll without taking any profit for things like food, clothing, wives, etc. If I understand the prediction of your "buzzword" correctly, then if I play a strategy with half the variance I should be able to play my usual limits with half the win rate but the same chance of ruin. Or conversely, I can step up in limits to twice my usual as long as I maintain the same BB/hr win rate? |

It's been said in other threads, but I literally think a 6-max $50NL table on Pokerstars is tougher than a FR live 1/2 NL game anywhere, given that just about everyone online these days is playing good TAG poker and using PT/PAHUD. As you start out building your roll, playing good smart TAG positional poker to start with, 10 buy-ins should be plenty. Then you could open up your game a bit and become more LAG and tricky. I'd really master 1/2 and build your roll to >$15k before settling in to 2/5 though, competition is a lot better there. Given how bad the play was in Vegas 2 weeks ago at 1/2 on my vacation, you should be able to get there pretty quickly! |

Re: 1-2NL Bankroll
Im a younger guy I can't get into casinos yet but theres plenty of 1-2 homegames near me. If i go bust then I won't have money for car insurance. If I bust then I would probley have to get rid of the beamer and get something that has cheaper insurance and maintance. Other then that nothing I still live at home.
