Re: Play us an old song for the first time
[ QUOTE ]
Rick, my your tastes are changing. [/ QUOTE ] I'm confused. Is it "my" or "your" taste that is changing? I'm also wondering why you would think our tastes are that different. Weren't you there with me at Lupo's for ex New York Doll David Johansen (I think with my brother)? or David Johansen as Buster Poindexter? for Richard Thompson? one of the Lone Justice shows? or perhaps Duke Robillard/Romefull of Blues (more than once)? and maybe Throwing Muses in Newport? And didn't you once tell me you saw the Ramones by yourself in a small club (I think near Boston) and thought it was the greatest concert you've ever seen because they never stopped for one second between songs to open their stupid rock star mouths? ~ Rick |

I'm pretty young and never been exposed to any of these music, so I'm really enjoying checking out these music they seem to have much more a natural, happy and relaxing feel than today's music. why is that?

I don't know much about the Allman Brothers but I absolutely love Little Martha. What a beautiful acoustic tune. Little Martha (my favorite Allman Bros tune) [/ QUOTE ] Great song. I dig the harmonics at 1:12. |

Ah, but nobody does "You Come from Rhode Island" quite like Blossom.
My favorite for a long time has been Susannah McCorkle who ended her own life a few years ago. |

Re: Play us an old song for the first time
Rick, okay "My, your tastes are changing." Saw The Ramones at Lupo's, btw. And we also saw Bonnie Raitt in Newport one night; might have been all of sixty people there.
And, hell, I'm just universally tasteless, which perhaps explains Los Straitjackets sitting on top of Sibelieus's Violin Concerto in my car. One more note: I'm on a committee that uses money raised in the honor of a colleague to fund humanities programming at CCRI. We're trying to get Tab Benoit and Leon Redbone for this year's event. |

Re: Play us an old song for the first time
[ QUOTE ]
Throwing Muses! Awesome... [/ QUOTE ] Mid-eighties indie sensations Throwing Muses fronted by Kristen Hersch and her step-sister Tany Donelly grew up in Newport, Rhode Island and for a while played some small Rhode Island venues. I grew up next door ten years earlier in Middletown but lived in Newport during those years and managed to see them once in a small club. Their first self titled album came out in 1986 in vinyl (sadly I gave away all my vinyl). I don't think it ever made it to CD as it doesn't appear for sale on Amazon or even the Throwing Muses home page. A few from that first full album: Hate My Way (live, 1987) Green (live, 1987) Rabbit's Dying (live, 1987) Soul Soldier And from a few years later: Hook in Her Head (live, 1991) Counting Backwards ~ Rick |
