Re: NBA ref fixing games?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] just heard on Canadian sport news (sportsnet) that Donaghy's games averaged more points than Vegas predicted over a fairly large sample size. [/ QUOTE ] curious to see what his # foul calls/game compares to other refs ... but you would think just by internal review if he's calling way more fouls than avg he'd be fired [/ QUOTE ] If this was a concern then he could just call fewer fouls in other games. Not like he can't count on a different ref to blow the whistle on the more flagrant stuff anyway. He can just put it in his pocket and let the other 2 refs do the work on the games he hasn't bet and he'll average out just fine. I would think that some of the specifically lousier calls he made in some games would have been more eyebrow raising. But obviously the officiating is so bad in the NBA that when another ref just makes painfully bad calls it's just not that noticeable because it happens all the damn time. There have been specific instances of bad officiating in baseball and football but the refereeing in basketball seems to be so much more consistently awful. |

Re: NBA ref fixing games?
[ QUOTE ]
More specific game fixing examples pls. [/ QUOTE ] Haven't clicked the above link to see if it lists specific games, but a quick check also showed that he worked another game three this year - Dallas-Golden State, in Oakland. The Warriors absolutely killed the Mavericks, what with huge home momentum and a good matchup in general, so it's doubtful he could have brought them back to the line, but if he was smart he bet on GS anyway. Re: NBA ref fixing games?
Lol, it appears the bookies taking Donaghy's action had zero mob conections according to the New York Daily News:
"Two catholic high school chums of disgraced referee Tim Donaghy have been identified as the bookies in a gambling scandal rocking the NBA, the Daily News has learned. But the two bet-takers apparently exaggerated their Mafia connections. "They're nobodies," a law enforcement source said. The mob wanna-bes attended Cardinal O'Hara High School in Springfield, Pa., with Donaghy, who was a varsity standout on the school's basketball and baseball teams." New York Daily News |
