Re: What\'s a good $$ donation for a wedding gift?
[ QUOTE ]
Generally the gift should approximately equal the amount per head of each wedding guest. If it's a super nice wedding (not absurdly super nice), then $100-250 per person (you and gf, or whatever). [/ QUOTE ] I'm getting married next month. This is the correct answer for the average guest. Best man needs to do a little more than that. |

Re: What\'s a good $$ donation for a wedding gift?
My usual rule of thumb is $100 if I am not in the wedding party - $150 if I am bringing a date.
If I am in the wedding party, I double both of the above amounts. |

Re: What\'s a good $$ donation for a wedding gift?
Normally give between £50 to £75 over here, so that's about $100-150 for you

I feel like if you're in the wedding party, you are very close with the bride/groom so the gift should reflect that. The $100-$200 tux rental is offset by the gift you would get from the groom for being in the wedding party. |

Re: What\'s a good $$ donation for a wedding gift?
[ QUOTE ]
depends on the general financial situation of others, too. i went to a wedding with some young friends - they got married while still in grad school. most everyone there is a student and is kinda broke. i got them a some nice knives (they weren't registered anywhere) - spent like 100 bucks and it was twice the price of anything else our friends got them. felt a little weird. [/ QUOTE ] Never, EVER, give knives as a wedding gift, it's considered very bad luck. Ask Emily Post. : ) As the best man, I would say $200. T |

Re: What\'s a good $$ donation for a wedding gift?
My wife is an event manager at a large hotel in the Northeast and $150 a head covers the $105-$120 a head cost. Now normally how it works is the parents usually pay for the cost of the wedding, so it's gravy for the kids getting married anyway. I have heard horror stories from people that paid for most of their own wedding and get an aunt, uncle and three cousins attend and receive a $100 check from the 5.

[/ QUOTE ] This isn't serious right? I hope you're being sarcastic here. This is not a horror story. A wedding is not intended to be a profit-making enterprise. If you don't want someone at your wedding badly enough to justify the expense of hosting them, then that is an opportunity to trim the guest list, or reevaluate the party you are throwing.
