Angle shoot or meta game?
A little back story...
I just got back from a business trip in NJ. On my last chance to sneak away to Atlantic City I took it. 10pm-5am and had to drive back to Edison for work at 9am. Sat at a 2/4 limit table which is the largest I've ever played live for any real length of time. I'm from florida so this is the first real casino I've played poker in. I got seated to the left of a aggresive LAG and never got any isolating hands and wasn't able to limp marginals to a 2-bet or 3-bet (which of course would have taken down huge pots). After waiting patiently for good hands I finally requested a seat change to sit to his right. Eventually the table broke when I moved to 3/6 because the dealer was being bitchy (only reason I was still sitting was I knew it would break if I left). So I won back my money and then some until the table began to lose the fish and we were left with the toughest table I've ever been at around 2:30am when another table is joined to ours. Here the questionable play... Anyways I wasn't getting much in the way of cards and what I did get wasn't hitting. I have the tightest image at the table. Finally I decide to call a fairly loose raiser in early positon with K6 suited. Flop Qh Jh 6d He bets and I raise he calls 9h This cards completes a lot of draws that I might call a preflop raise with and given that my raise on the flop could have been a free card play (I also have a inside straight draw) I decide to make the following play. He bets but only throws out a a single 5 dollar chip and I quickly throw out 6. He then throws out an additional buck. I tell the dealer I tried to raise his bet but was confused by the single chip he threw. I state I wanted to raise and he says he will allow it. I put an additional 6 bucks in the pot. He goes into the tank for 20-30 seconds and mucks... I show my pair of sixs knowing I made him fold a queen or jack. I am complimented by the best player at the table and hope I will get a little more action... So whats the verdict? Meta game or angle shoot? |

Re: Angle shoot or meta game?
Seems like an angle to me as if you wanted to raise you should have put 16 in to begin with. That said I dont think it added to your play if you would have just said raise he probably would have mucked anyway

Re: Angle shoot or meta game?
There is no way he folded QJ here at 3/6.

Re: Angle shoot or meta game?
This is a potential angle shoot, and as such, the dealer made a mistake in allowing you to raise.

Yea, after I did it I started to think it was. Well I won't do it again.

Re: Angle shoot or meta game?
LAME angle shot on your part. Also, dont play 2/4 live unless your object is to get drunk as cheaply as possible.

Re: Angle shoot or meta game?
Fold pre-flop. Puke.
This was a dick move. And what did this gain you that just raising normally wouldn't? And don't show your bluffs. A tight image is a good thing to cultivate in LHE. I'm as thirsty for action as the next guy, but I can't imagine jonesin' so much that I would drive 100 miles each way so that I could stay up all night playing $2/4 when I had to work the next day. Of course, I don't live in Florida. Are moderators allowed to say, "dick?" |
