can't they just do a three man rotation for the first series... the only guy that would have to pitch on short rest would be wang with 3 days instead of 4...Giving pettite an extra start...would make me happy

I really don't think pitching Wang on the road/then at home on short rest is a good idea at all.

I'm a big believer in LOL @ splits meaning anything, but I think there's credibility in this one. He's such an extreme GB pitcher that if on the road teams cut grass really short and really dried out the dirt, while the Yankees watered their dirt heavily, long grass etc. that those would be the the reasons for the significant difference in numbers.

IMO I like Hughes or Moose better on the road than Wang(Not to mention Pettite and Clemens)

His splits on the road/home are basically exactly the same EXCEPT for singles allowed. This is often a luck based thing, but since it's now over such a significant sample I'm inclined to think it's more than that.

imo i think this would be best:

1 @ CLE - Pettitte
2 @ CLE - Clemens
3 @ NYY - Wang
4 @ NYY - Mussina
5 @ CLE - Pettitte

i know wang is our ace, BUT... two games on the road? i agree with you thayer, i don't think its coincidence anymore with CMW. plus, we've seen pettitte do it for us time and time again in huge games; game 1 and game 5 both qualify, on the road.

game 3 at home with wang against byrd/westbrook is as close to a stone cold lock as anything in sports. however, there's no chance torre does this, and will definitely pitch wang in game 1 or 2.

If you think field conditions are the difference - that's no reason to pitch Wang in Game 3. After all, Cleveland has Fausto Carmona - they shouldn't cut the grass short to get at Wang.

Wang at home is so much better than moose, I don't see how you cold think this is a bad idea

him at home regular rest is optimal FOR HIM... but for the pitching staff as a whole I don't see how you could argue against mine being optimal

i feel like it also gives them the best chance to close it out in 4 as opposed to 5 games, which is an advantage going into the next series

Well I would say Hughes and Moose on the road are ~ to Wang on the road, so I don't think it's smart to risk Wang's home effectiveness by starting him in Game 1 and having him start at home on short rest.

Though Hughes and Moose vs Wang debate doesn't really matter since it should be Clemens and Pettite in 1 and 2 anyways.

or are you just saying that since game 1 is the lowest leverage game, clemens should be used there instead of in a later game? clemens DIPS just aren't that good.
