you're incorrect. there just aren't many good pitchers out there who aren't strikeout pitchers. The guys who don't strike out a ton of guys don't walk anyone (e.g. Maddux in his prime, David Wells).

Maddux in his prime had very good K numbers. Though yes, it wasn't his Strikeout ability it was his BB allowed that made him one of the best pitchers ever.

Also like to note that Maddux leads the league this year in K:BB. So he still has the insane control that has always made him great, but the fact that his K rate has declined so much is what has made him currently mediocre.
