[ QUOTE ]
If we started filling the pokerrooms with judgmental colleagues who wish to filter out eccentric, brash degenerates, we'd be suffocating the spirit of the game.

[/ QUOTE ]
Since when is the "spirit" of the game defined as acting like a babboon or waving a plastic shark around? This IMO, crosses the line from good natured "spirit" to obnoxious pre meditated TV antics and douchebaggery .

Great post, Barry Lyndon. You've almost changed my mind about the whole thing, something I didn't think would happen. I still think Hevad is classless and annoying for unintentionally rubbing his victories in his opponents' faces, but your point about the game needing to encompass all personalities is a great one.

I agree with the sentiment of Barry's post and think that one of the greatest aspects of the poker community is its embracing/acceptance of people's differences, but I question whether this is personality or performance. The chair dance specifically struck me as being a moment of contemplation followed by a decision to do a little performance.

ESPN turns the sound down when Hevad starts screaming. In person, Hevad screams so loud it is unbelievable. To the player who lost the hand, and everyone else in all of the Rio, it is too much, way way way way way way way too much.
The guy is a total [censored].

normally, i despise the ridiculous high-fives, group hugs,
"booo-yeah's", and what-not...

but Hevad Kahn takes it to such an extreme level...
it's almost self-parody. i found myself really enjoying
his antics.

did you ever think someone would come along and make
that kid, "the screaming swede", ( forgot his name ),
reserved??

oh... and since nobody could possibly behave any worse...
perhaps this is a turning point for casino poker,
and players will begin to act politely.

personally i think it's great and i actually laughed when i saw it. he doesn't berate players by calling them idiots and criticizing their play like some of the other players do. I would much rather have a player like him at my table than someone like devilfish who thinks he never makes a bad play. Plus we are forgetting the most important thing here, he is on tv because espn thinks that he will increase their ratings which is what tv poker is all about. And espn does need the ratings because they have been slipping at a great pace. In the end this really comes down to opinion with no correct answer, i'm sure he knows that some people will like him and some will hate him, some people think ivey is cocky because he doesn't say a word and some people love matusow and so forth, but the fact that we are even having this conversation about kahn means that espn accomplished their goal cause If he just sat there and was quiet we would have nothing to post about.
