It is not over
I might be wrong, but i really doubt this is the end of online poker for the US or anything near it for many reasons. I think this is one of those laws where this will not be heavily enforced, kind of like dling music on the internet, or prostitution. I think this is just setting up for US state regulated online gambling sites to open up so they can get some of this money.
Bottom line, a 12 billion dollar industry is not just gonna go away. Music downloading made little to nothing and that is bigger than ever now. |

Re: It is not over
It's not remotely over. All we need is one payment method that doesn't get blocked and the impact is trivial.

Re: It is not over
If you don't fight this like hell, you have no idea what you are accepting. IP address are easy to track...money is easy to track...foreign banks that do not comply with US law may be banned in the near future (already being discussed). A bank must cash a check, thus US mail is not a fail safe...you might request Party IP addresses from Comcast or whomever, this is not going to be easy in the future...Party will be guilty of breaking US law by allowing US players there (even though WTO supports Party vs US)...You could (maybe) get jail time...and You Will get tax evasion (no question).
The new laws would be like if you bought pot through emails and always paid with a credit card (or by check). The point is, it's very easy to bust anyone for online gambling (and they will probably sieze your assets, as done in other circumstances where funds are made through illegal activities). This may not affect those 25 yrs of age or less, but affects those you want to play against. The music thing is very different really. I don't profit or sell music over Limeprogram, where as illegal gamblers may profit. Limeprogram does not have one IP address, but accesses everyones who is running it. I would like poker to work the same way, but you need a central, unbiased, card randomizer that would be impossible for someone to hack (and yet not be on a central server), but I'm not an expert on that end. I believe that to be near impossible. iH8poker |
