How did you pay for college?

I paid/pay for my university with poker winnings.

Of course, university here is only $5000ish/year. And less when you're a loser like me who only takes three classes a semester.

I also did the thing with the roll of 20s. My semester's tuition came to like $2250, and the night before I paid it I won $3100 playing 1/2. I went straight from poker to school and just whipped out two 1k wads, two browns and a red and paid it.

The look on the woman's face taking my money was, indeed, priceless. I think it was the most cash she had seen in her life lol.

Paying for community college in poker cash was indeed priceless (although I used hundos from the bank)...once you move on to a more expensive 4-yr school though it becomes difficult

My dad pays $50,000 a year for mine. I plan on paying him back some once I start playing poker again.

My undergrad cost $175,000 including room and board for four years.

$100,000 merit scholarship
$30,000 need based financial aid
$10,000 paid by parents
$10,000 paid by myself
$25,000 in federal loans

Law School will cost $165,000 for three years including living expenses.

$90,000 covered by scholarship
$75,000 covered by a combination of stafford and MEFA loans


This will give me a total of $100,000 in loans, plus an additional $2,500 in accrued interest, averaging out at about 5.9% interest.

I will be making about $35k pretax this coming summer and $160k+ and hopefully a bonus starting in the fall of '09. My salary should rise by at least 7-8% each year, and I haven't decided if I am going to pay off all my loans ASAP or invest the money at a higher rate of return that I'm paying on the loans and just make the normal payments.

School cost $130,000 for 4 years w/ room and board. My school doesn't give merit based scholarships because they feel everyone who gets in gets in on merit, so only need based. Roughly got $100,000 in need based scholarships and the rest I'm slowly paying down in student loans.
