Re: 77 facing a shortie shove
very read dependent.. how have the blinds been? I never want to shove in 30bb's to see if I'm crushed by one of the big stacks. If I have a good read the blinds are really tight, I flat call, if not, I fold. Much easier call on the bb, as we're looking for these shorty races with our stack here. In most cases I think it's a fold. (although a case can be made that by flat calling you're level 2 inviting a shove, repping AA,KK, but again, this level of a read is rare)

Re: 77 facing a shortie shove
Call if you don't mind risking ~25% of your stack if your up against an overpair as an ~80% dog.
Coin toss if your up against 2 overcards... |

Re: 77 facing a shortie shove
It's not just a "coin toss." It's being WE with like ~800 in the pot. This is an isolation push. Just do the math on poker stove, including like K9+; 22+; Q10+; A6+; J9s+; J10o+. I think you'll find that you are ahead.

Re: 77 facing a shortie shove
i flat called so i could fold if i so chose. it sets up a potential windfall when i flat call a shove w kk later too and someone tries to make a move. this guy showed 56s and i won the pot. i really cant see folding here. im too far ahead of his shoving range.

Re: 77 facing a shortie shove
I think this is a definite iso shove. The SB/BB can't really call with under AQ/88. In fact, since you have so many chips compared to their stacks, I think they're only calling here with AK and TT-AA.
If you're prepared to snap call a shove from the blinds, I think you should call. It would be an extremely bad play to call 1/4th of your stack to a CO shove and then have to fold to a perceptive blind squeeze. |

Re: 77 facing a shortie shove
i think this is a shove. If the blinds are loose, u really don't want them calling with AT;AJ. Shoving might even get them to fold 88. If u flatcall, and one of the blinds shoves, i think u have to call getting 2 to 1 with 36% equity vs a range of: 99+;AQs+;AQo+.

[ QUOTE ]
if you call and get repopped its a fold correct? [/ QUOTE ] which is why you shove to iso...I love when I'm acting after a flatcaller (assuming he's not a tricky player who'd flat a monster hoping to induce my shove)...makes it easy for me to shove behind and let me get HU with shortie and dead money in pot. only having the blinds left to act makes it a straightforward iso shove question to everyone else: how do you treat similar situations (stack sizes, shove by shorty) but in earlier position? what if shorty shoved and you still had 4 or 5 players left to act after you, but you are holding cards ahead of shorty's shoving range? what if you were playing quite a bit deeper (and are covered by more than one player left to act). Now that I've typed this I realize I should avoid using less than specific hypotheticals and post a real situation, I just figured since we're on the topic... |
