KJo in middle position
Full tilt, .25/50
No reads. I've been feeling iffy about my play lately due to some bad beats... this feels like standard play, but can someone tell me if I'm doing this right? I'm not sure about the pf call. Maybe I could have reraised? hero is dealt K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in middle position. UTG raises, 2 folds, hero calls, everyone else folds. Flop is 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] a [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] UTG bets. Hero folds. Standard play, right? |

Re: KJo in middle position
don't coldcall utg raises with easily-dominated offsuit hands.
the pot is too small to peel here even though you have quite a few outs. |

Re: KJo in middle position
No, this is not standard. The threat of domination is very menacing in situations like this. The PF raise can be indicative of a hand such as KQ, AJ, AK, KK, or JJ, all of those hands have you dominated if one of your outs hits. If your hand was suited it might be a little closer b/c a flush will sometimes bail you out in these situations. But I would still advise you to fold PF.

[ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure about the pf call. Maybe I could have reraised? [/ QUOTE ] Well, explain your thought process here... Why are you not sure? Why do you want to re-raise? . . . Tell you what, the cold-call was one of the worst leaks there are in limit hold'em. Unless you have some sort of read, 95% of the time the call PF was very bad and you are leaking tremendously because of it. Normally this would be a FOLD. Under certain circumstances you can re-raise this to isolate a particularly bad opponent (you have position and will likely win the blinds, making up for the worse equity we have pre-flop). On the flop, yes fold is standard if you cold-called like this. |

Re: KJo in middle position
no reads. easy peasy fold preflop. if you routinely call in this sort of spot then you really need to work on that leak cos it will cost ya...especially when you flop a pair and are beat by higher pair or are outkicked.

Re: KJo in middle position
Argh.. it's just a leak then. I have a hard time folding 2 face cards pf.

Re: KJo in middle position
I'd fold this guy preflop as well as on the flop.

Re: KJo in middle position
I had this problem too when I was first starting. Go back to SSHE and read and re-read the pre-flop suggestion section, it explains these concepts very thoroughly.
