Default Cash Game Blinds and Buy-Ins

I don't play cash NL hold'em very often, but my group of friends tends to play .50/1.00 with $40 max buy-in. 40xBB seems very shallow to me. What do people here do? Isn't the "normal" buy-in up to 100xBB?

I normally play 20$ buy in with 25/50, so it's right on course for me.

that is very shallow, it will definitly give odds to push way to often and the most decent poker players won't be too happy in that kinda game being so short stacked... for a .5/1.00 game the average buy-in should be at least double that and the max @ $100.

40BB is very short.

We play $.25-$.50 blinds with $50-$100 buy-ins (which is 100-200BB).
