Unfortunatly the police were there people not too happy about Phelps

Down where I live the Klan is still active, and I've known several officers assigned to work the protest when the Klan exercises their 1st Amendment rights to speak on the courthouse steps who've "had miscommunications" or "lost radio contact" during the protests and didn't seem to realize a violent incident was occuring. Yeah, public employees neglecting their duty to protect the rights and safety of citizens is cool.

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL. It is not the duty of Law Enforcement officials to "protect the safety" of anyone.

[/ QUOTE ]

If this is true, the govt at no level should be able to restrict guns in any way

DING DING DING DING DING!!!

YOU SIR, ARE A [censored] GENIUS!!! Why do you think we've been saying that for so long!?!

BTW, has it ever occured to anyone that the Second amendment was the only amendment in the Bill of Rights that pertained to an actual physical object?

When this group was just picketing the funerals of gays and productions of "The Laramie Project", nobody seemed to care.
But picket one funeral of a soldier, and everybody is against them.

While I wish the group would just wither away, the verdict is disturbing.

[/ QUOTE ]
They got some decent publicity for the the laramie stuff, so they started protesting random gays and it is picked up a little more. These people are like a well oiled machine and it's sickening.

[/ QUOTE ]

True. Now they've gone to protesting at the funerals of the NC college students who were killed in that house fire a few days back.

Even the very small sick minority who feel it's ok to hold "God Hates [censored]" and "Thank God for 9/11" signs outside funerals willl probably lose some support by picketing college students.

He's just a publicity whore.

MidGe, these are the people we hate, not the homosexuals.

And we wonder how bigotry and racism still exist. Obviously these folks have never read a bible.

Parts. I prefer non-fiction to fiction though. I know quite a bit about it though. There are plenty of quotes that support their actions.

I have mixed feelings about this verdict. I think Phelps and his church are scumbags and anything that causes problems for them makes me smile. Unfortunately, i doubt that the plaintiffs will ever collect a dime. Blood out of a turnip (although calling Fred Phelps a turnip is an insult to turnips).

OTOH, this raises significant free speech issues and is a terrible precedent. Is any protest that offends somebody actionable now? Talk about a "chilling effect".

Pretty sure they have forgotten about the teachings of Jesus Christ. But I guess he is a minor character in CHRISTianity.

Just like people read the Constitution and come up with differing interpretations. Or read a post here and decide what is being said.

Usually says more about the person who is reading and using the document as a basis for actions/statements than the document itself.

This judicial verdict was a bad idea. However, congress should have stepped in and made it legal to do anything you want to the people in the phelps cult.
