Do you use general psychic skepticism as some sort of beginning cold read? Or is that too obvious?

Nah, most people are at least a little skeptical at first, so you just have to try to impress them with a good guess in the first minute or two. The thing is, most people can be convinced at least somewhat. I read an article, and I wish I could remember where it was, where a guy who was purported to have zero charisma and wasn't really trying to sell it gave a reading with no feedback to a crowd of 100 people. He didn't say it was for a specific person, but said that that person would know who it was for. After he did it, everyone filled out a survey. something like 95 of the 100 said that they thought the reading was about them and that he was extremely accurate. He basically used barnum statements (the article I linked you too before goes into pretty specific detail about them)

What do you tell your gf's parents/family that you do? Are you honest with people you meet about your occupation?

GF's parents/my family think it's funny, and interesting. It's kind of a side job for me because I still do programming quite a bit. I'm looking for a new programming job and am planning on going to culinary school next year, so basically I do a lot, and I don't mind telling people I do the psychic stuff too.

Alright, I'm headed to bed. If there's much more interest in this I'll try to answer a few questions tomorrow.

More stories please, that's really awesome.

[/ QUOTE ]

Another one, that actually happened yesterday was a guy who tried to scam me. They get a minute or two free before I'm actually hired, and they have to take another step to hire me. This guy was trying to pretend that he hired me when I would get very specific confirmation if he had. He wanted to know where his relationship was going, so I told him that his girlfriend was cheating on him and already gave him syphillus. After he freaked out, I told him I just made it up and not to [censored] with a psychic.

[/ QUOTE ]

Awesome!

Do you know any other people who do this? Are there any who actually believe they are psychic. What would you guys about guys like John Edwards? Does he believe any of his own BS?
