Ok thanks guys. I've tried lowering my grip a couple of times before, but it felt really unnatural and hurt my fingers so I went back. I guess I'll try to stick with it this time. I've heard mixed things about gloves similar to the concerns in this thread, so I'll probably hold off on those unless I feel I really need them. How useful are the grippers, and how valuable is having a strong grip anyway aside from DLs?

Get a callus file and file it down each time so the previous callus isn't adding to the problem.

You didn't say anything wrong though. I just know from learning myself that describing physical movements can be confusing for the reader.

I love doing both squats and deadlifts, but I have pretty much just maxed out squats and neglected deadlifts for the past few months. Currently I'm just doing squats, dumbbell chest press, and lots of push-ups.

hmm, I thought I read somewhere that unless you are doing superheavy weight there is no reason to do an over/under grip... I admit that at a given weight, gripping the bar like this is more difficult for me than just using a regular overhand grip...maybe I should start to use this more...

Other nuances:

Do you hook your thumbs around or up when you do pull ups?

Do you hook your thumbs around or up when you bench?

I've heard arguments for both.

I hook them around. The cons are that it's slightly more taxing on the wrists unless you do it correctly. The pros are that you don't die!

not much to say about it...you can do either hand either way..I usually alternate. also, ur dual overhand is very hard on grip..i think people train for grip strength by doing that type of deadlift

[/ QUOTE ]
True. I train with an overhand grip for all of my warm up sets to help improve grip and forearm development. When I start my working sets I switch to an alternate grip.

I always hook my thimbs around the bar. It helps to prevent the bar from slipping out of the hand.

A reason why to use this grip, ouch
