he did gain a lot of information by just calling, he got to see the turn bet, and thats why a lot of people have said they think a fold could be right on the turn.

Thats without raising the flop for 'information'

What really useful info have you gained if villain bets turn? Now you know that villain doesn't fire one-street bluffs? Is that really enough to go on?

There are lots of even medium-strength players who have learned to fire two street bluffs, or semi-bluffs.

But the key point is that you probably haven't induced much fear in villain. Sure, a timid inexperienced player might decide to take a shot with top pair weak kicker, or middle pair, or even less, but you call, and he figures oops, I'm done here. But that's just the timid inexperienced players.

4-betting flop accomplishes 4 important things:

1. indicates that either you have a real hand or that you are a player willing to escalate stakes (which tends to indicate a more talented player)

2. forces a straightforward villain to think about what you might have, rather than just what he has, and this might induce enough doubt to get a fold out of him

3. significantly raises the stakes, and, independent of any other factor, raised stakes can force opponents without a premium hand outside of their comfort zone and induce mistakes from them

4. puts and end to the action on the flop, where it should end for an unimproved overpair the large majority of the time

I didn't realize this thread would create so much discussion, and I thought the question was whether to fold the turn, not whether to raise.

Do you not see that by raising with KK and expecting to win the pot 0% of the time when called turns it into a bluff and therefore you should be doing this with your entire range? If you are bluffing with KK why are you folding AK?

[/ QUOTE ]
no not necessarily, kk has more equity against a set than ak, which always helps when you are bluffing
