my noob post & an $11 AK hand
I've been a lurker for around 6 months, and should start by thanking all you STT regulars for all the great advice. I'm 24 and started playing live 2 years ago, and online about a year later. I work on a computer all day which makes it tough to come home and put in alot of hours playing (tough on eyes), but I've decided to start committing more time to the game. [censored] my eyes. I've made around $1000 playing almost entirely $5 and $10 sngs...one tabling. This is really pretty pathetic considering how much time I probably put into 1 tabling with around 100 buy-ins. I know this is a waste of time and money if you're beating the game but I've heard it's the best way to really learn how to play. I just started 4 tabling last week after deciding it's time to really put some effort into playing more, reading/posting here, and moving up faster. My biggest weakness is not putting in the time/effort to play or study/improve, so starting today thats what I'm trying to do.
On to the hand - Its early so no reads. I'm mostly interested in what your river play is, but any help is appreciated. Re: my noob post & an $11 AK hand
Welcome to the forums! I'm in a similar situation to you and have learned a great deal here.
Minor point, but from UTG I make it 80-100 to go preflop at Level 1 in a $11, helps to thin the field a little more. Otherwise I agree with bengiec, bet a bit more on all streets. |

Re: my noob post & an $11 AK hand
Bet like 200-250 on the flop 400-500 on the turn. Once I made those bets I shove river. Here I probably shove river, but I'm not crazy about it.

Re: my noob post & an $11 AK hand
You have been underbetting all the way with draws on the board and no surprise, one got there.
The turn bets needs to be way bigger as you have two draws on the board and about half the deck makes your decision tough on the river. As it was, it is very possible that you are now beat by diamonds or even a backdoor straight draw Even with the raise preflop and the way some guys play these in the early levels, even a 9 or TJ is not out of the question. I probably make another bet of 300 because check folding screams weakness and will induce bluffs against you that will be hard to call. I fold to a raise and try to come back from a half stack. Maybe I just check fold in the first place. Truth be told, I hate every option you have on this river and am not sure what to do. This is a case of mistakes eariler in the hand making later decisions very difficult. The big mistake was not betting more on the turn. Welcome |

Re: my noob post & an $11 AK hand
probably not. I'm basically a cash game player now. I really do not know what I am doing posting at all. Maybe it's because I am still delirious from yesterdays WSOP final table PPV
Maybe if Durron gives me a cool title I'll make an effort |

Re: my noob post & an $11 AK hand
Thanks to all for the advice...it looks like I underbet flop and turn. But given that the flop and turn are misplayed...
I like Aleo's line of bet 300/fold to a raise. You get value from Ax and lose a smaller amount than c/c a bigger bet from a better hand. I think I almost always c/c when I can save by using a blocking bet. It's something I need to learn, Thanks Aleo. I noticed I left the final pot in by mistake...anyway I c/c'd something like 450 and lost to A9. |

Re: my noob post & an $11 AK hand
i think you need to put some faith in MP3 not being a total douche calling 1/3 his stack on a draw and either bet out about 300 again and catch him with a weaker ace or fold to a raise, -
or check call ? although if you check his raise would likely be all-in, in which case youd have to fold edit. agree, bet more on the flop. i like about 150, i want 1-2 callers |
