Default 99 SB vs 50bb button opener

Assume button is fairly taggish PF but I don't have stats.
What's my line here? Am I committed if he pushes the flop after I fire a 2/3PSB? What about if he smooth calls the flop?

Full Tilt Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game

UTG+1: $222.80

bet and generally fold. bet/calling is okay if you know some stuff about him.

You've got a lot of Fold equity if he pushes this flop. You'd be stacking 140ish into a 270ish pot when you're more than 4-1 dog.

Smooths pot... what's his aggro factor. Reads?

[/ QUOTE ]I think this is completely wrong. Bet and call, check and raise, or check and fold...imo. I probably bet/call.

I'd crai

edit to say: if you bet/call you're usually in bad shape but you'll see shorties shove pretty much atcs in this spot if you check. and if he bets pot or something close to it, ur not folding and at that point all the moneys goin in so just shove

i hate betting this flop.
what exactly are you gettting value from? if you have a read that he'll shove whatever crap he called with then b/c is ok, but really i think checking is much better, and then go from there... and usually ch/r'ing given your PF play.

im also surpised nobody has mentioned PF. im not a huge fan of 3 betting half stacks with 99. you thought you were ahead of his 3bet calling range right? but you got like the best flop you possibly could and now you dont want to get in the remaining 40BB's?

so i guess im saying if youre goin to 3 bet this guy with 99, you sure as hell better be happily stacking off on a T22 flop (and most non-A flops for that matter)

I have seen this idea expressed a few times on this forum, and while I'm not anywhere near good enough at poker to have as much righteous indignation as I do, it's just wrong! The decision about whether 3-betting is profitable should be made by comparing the EV of 3-betting (to which fold equity contributes a significant amount--it is not limited to equity against villain's 3-bet calling range) to the EV of the alternative (calling or folding).

raise bigger preflop, then bet/call on this flop

bet/folding is yucky

another line is 'slowplaying' your hand on this dry board trying to get value outa bluffs
