river 3bet is pretty bad

call his cr and expect to lose a lot. going 3bets on the river with just one pair is most of the time wrong.

*grunch

KJ not likely , J8 I wouldn't think it likely either, A9 is most likely so yeah I can't be afraid of that. That is the only hand he could have that is not misplayed.

So I think 3 bet is good.

Well obviously off the mark here.

I like the 3 bet for a few reasons, which will be considered spew and therefore am hesitant to post them because its such that a fold is not something you guys considered here.

Based on his read, from the original post, not the addendum, I thought you guys were going to say b/f.

I can't count how many times these guys take shots at the river knowing I can bet/fold. They likely don't know me of course but I don' t think the 3 bet for this occasion is costly at all, if I plan on playing against them for awhile.

So for the sake of clarity, let me state that I was wrong, don't bother berating me here, lesson learned...that is why I still grunch.

I just call the river check raise, expecting to lose, but hopeful (for one additional bet) that this guy has lost his mind.

Is it bad to check-call the river?
(online, doing so gives your opponent a "free" look at what you played whether he checks behind or bets, whereas betting the river and getting him to fold his busted flush draw would hide your holding from him)

fold to the river c/r. standard. 3-bet is almost a -2bb mistake

U need at least 50% equity to even consider raising.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually you need more because you will call a re-raise (-2 BB) the times you are behind (since hands that beat you are likely to pop), but only win 1 BB when ahead, so you must be ahead of ~67% of his range to raise profitably with a strong hand on the river.

(unless Vil is known to spew obv, or if you can fold TPTK to a re-raise)

Not always. It is in this case, however, impossible.

thanks to all that posted. it seems i have a lot to learn about putting people on hand ranges. it is a lot harder than i thought it would be. that seems to be a big area of opportunity for me to improve.
