Default AC This Weekend - Player Asks to See My Hand Every Time I Muck

Playing $1-2 NL at the Borgata this past weekend. I was in multiple heads up pots against a young kid (looked barely 21). At least 3-4 times he made a river bet that I called. When he showed a winner, I mucked, and every time he asked the floor to see my hand - even one time when he stacked me. I understand that he can do that, but isn't that just bad etiquette? These were not multi-way pots so there was no reason to suspect collusion. When I said something about it, he seemed utterly oblivious. Is this common? How should one "educate" this type of player (other than threatening to kick him in the nuts?)

Call the floor or ask the dealer to explain the rule. Thats ridiculous.

Muck the winner and then scoop the pot when he asks. That'll learn 'em.

Asking every time is abusive. You say the floor (not the dealer) allowed it? If it was indeed the floor I'd go speak to a surpervisor and ask him/her to put a stop to it.

Put him to a decision for all of his chips instead of being a girlyman.

Learn to muck your cards so that they are irretrievable.
This is the best solution b/c the floor will often uphold the IWTSTH rule, and it slows down the game to fight the guy. This really bugs me a lot when someone asks to see my hand. One time I told the table I would eat my cards before I let the dealer flip them over.

to quote from the godfather. "the 1-2 players are animals. let them lose their souls." but if you wanted to go back and forth, you could let him know he is abusing the rules just to see if he is a nice kid. 99% this won't make a difference. then proceed to request his hand exposed at every opportunity, slow roll, and pretend like you are going after him (even though it would be foolish to play any differently against one player) and maybe you can get him into making a mistake against you.

From Roberts Rules of Poker Section 3 - The Showdown.

5. Any player who has been dealt in may request to see any hand that has been called, even if the opponent's hand or the winning hand has been mucked. However, this is a privilege that may be revoked if abused. If a player other than the pot winner asks to see a hand that has been folded, that hand is dead. If the winning player asks to see a losing player’s hand, both hands are live, and the best hand wins.

This rule is not to be used to gain knowledge about an opponents hand. It is meant to be used when you suspect cheating (collusion) between two or more players.

I think this guy was not trying to be a dick, but was just really naive. Isn't there something online where you can review a hand history to see a showdown hand that was mucked? I'm wondering if this was just a bad internet habit carried over to live play...

My question is, how do you explain to someone WHY it is abusive to continually make that request? (esp. when there's no action to suggest collusion)

This is very common in California casinos; luckily I haven't seen it much in AC.
