"what else are they supposed to do?"

um, get a frickin' translator. it's not rocket science. anyone suggesting tasing was justifiable and the best option is ridiculously wrong. robert did not create the situation. he was mistreated. the airport authority/customs should have never allowed something like this to happen. once it did, the police should have diffused the situation not the man. a guy died for crying out loud and people are like, "meh, he threw furniture." ffs.

i think the police are taking a little too much heat for it. i think they used excessive force, on the other hand, why didn't the airport have support for this man?

how will the vancouver airport support the 2010 winter olympics? not to say tourists will be out of hand and hostile, but still... and why couldn't security handle him? isn't that a part of their job?

take another example, i've seen bouncers take guys down with less force, and guys that are fighting.

TASER put out the standard self-serving press release that any publicly traded company would but they included an interesting statement:

[ QUOTE ]
Cardiac arrest caused by electrical current is immediate. The video of the incident at the Vancouver airport indicates that the subject was continuing to fight well after the TASER application. This continuing struggle could not be possible if the subject died as a result of the TASER device electrical current causing cardiac arrest. His continuing struggle is proof that the TASER device was not the cause of his death.

[/ QUOTE ]

So, R*R, zyrrth, or anyone else advocating the cops should have just manhandled this guy care to comment?

Edit: The coroner's inquest isn't until May, wtf Canada?

Cardiac arrest: Cessation of the pumping activity of the heart resulting in failure of circulation of the blood throughout the body.

Well of course he couldn't keep writhing in pain if his heart stopped beating. Duh.

The TASER guys are implying that the only way the TASER could have killed him is if it stopped his heart instantly when the current was applied. This is obviously [censored].

TASER is going to say whatever it can to make itself look good, but if the guy didn't have a heart attack how else did the TASER kill him?

Edit: AI on TASERS. Most of the deaths had multiple stuns of people on drugs. The initial tox report on the Polish guy says he was clean.

You don't think putting a person in intense pain, putting a current through his muscles and nerves and artificially sending his stress hormones through the roof could have some dangerous side effects?

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/...in672709.shtml

TASERS are generally safe according to most reports but they do induce an incredible state of stress and pain. That has to increase the risk of death in some individuals.

I mean, what else are you suggesting killed him? Unless the officers broke his neck or something, the obvious culprit is damage caused by the TASER.

You just linked to a CBS report about a study where pigs were shocked 18 times with a TASER and none of them died. Lol.

It's well known that something like 99.5% of taserings don't result in death, so I don't see what your point is.

You didn't actually address any of my points.

If you'd read the article, you'd see that enzymes were detected in their blood which were consistent with heart damage. So there IS a mechanism for damage that doesn't involve instant death.

It should be incredibly obvious that putting someone in intense unnatural pain and sending a current through all their tissues is going to increase the risk of death in some individuals.

Again, what do you propose lead to his death if not the effects of the taser?

Manhandled. lol. ok wtf. Call it whatever you want. And how many comments do you want me to make? Scroll up. Hold your breath for the coroner's report. It does not change the fact that the taser was not neccessary.

The policing expert in the Times Colonist article is this guy. He gets paid to testify in court. He says this in the article:

[ QUOTE ]
Lyman was also concerned about the way one of the officers repeatedly struck what appeared to be a baton on the floor near the prostrate Dziekanski.

"Whether it hit him, I don't know. But I am concerned that he may have been struck with no justification."

[/ QUOTE ]

That's a neat bit of doublespeak to smear the cops. It doesn't take an expert to know how collapsible batons work. The cop in the video slamming his baton on the floor is closing it. That's the only way to close one and anyone who's held one should know that.

[/ QUOTE ]

the times communist is such a hippie newspaper. if they weren't protesting about this it would be about something else.
