How are so many people advocating folding hand 1 and calling hand 2? If anything you should be folding hand 2 and calling hand 1, but since UTG is tight I just fold in hand 1 as well since there's a good chance it will get capped.

There are going to be a lot more people in the pot in hand 2. In hand 2 we just need to flop a set to win a lot, in hand 1 we need to flop a draw and then hit it. Really not that complicated.

Re. hand #1, I thought it was a fold, too, but a tight 2+2'er at the table thinks it's an easy call. We have great relative position on the initial PFR (who is likely the guy with the best hand right now) and, since we presumably play better than everyone else, we will not make big mistakes postflop. Eh?

Maybe get a napkin for the vomit but checkfolding the flop is almost always going to be wrong and checkcalling is going to be right even with an overpair.

Because of our set/backdoor straight outs?

True, but its sort of a reverse implied odds hand given PFR's range and we're calling 2 bets.

Would you call hand 2 with 22 or 44 or 66? I think these have almost the same value as 99 in this situation.

I've never thought much of this argument. If it were no limit, I'd be more impressed. In limit, we have small edges and the worse hands we play and the closer we are to UTG, the smaller those edges become. The lower our cards the more they need protecting and the more likely they are to be overcarded on sbusequent streets. Those factors can counteract the "we won't make big postflop mistakes" argument.

Hand 1 - fold. With the other callers, their range of hands could easily consist of qjoff, kj, aj, etc...tough hand to play.
Hand 2 - I would call to flop a set or draw with big multiway pot developing. You should c/c flop. Your hand is now a drawing hand. Since button is passive, 90% he has over pair. You now have a back door str8 draw with 9 as an out. And since pot will be laying you 15/1, peeling 1 card makes the most sense. Nothing to protect by c/r.

Hand 1: If you want to gamble--call here. However, if you want a gambling hand pick slightly lower suited connectors here. In a hand like this I would prefer 7-8 or 8-9 b/c then your pair cards are more likely clean. Just be wary of the SB here.

Hand 2: I have no problem with the call here. However, you have a problem on the flop. I probably go for the check raise her and see what happens... tough spot to be in. Pray for a 9 on the turn!!
