They obviously wouldn't do this if a higher limit table was available.

[/ QUOTE ]

There is always a higher limit available.

Which was my point. Duh.

Well if this is your point you don't understand this thread.

Do you understand we are not talking about a set table limit? We are talking about 3 people playing together on ANY table to increase the table max.

OK sonneti -- you're brilliant.

I was initially responding to pig4bill, who wrote --

Sounds more like they're worried about someone playing a Martingale system where they double bets every loser until they win. Having 3 guys lets them go 3 times the table limit.

[/ QUOTE ]

To which I replied ...

Why not just go find a higher limit table?

[/ QUOTE ]

The OP, rootabager, got it right when he observed, "Why would the casino's care? Seems like it's awesome for them, they have 3 high rollers instead of 1."

So it must have something to do with progressions.

Since you insist on defending pig4bill -- let's analyze your strategy. If I keep extra people hanging around so that I can exceed the table limit, I would need 1 extra person to double the limit, 3 extra people to go 4X, 7 extras to go 8X, and 15 to get 16X. That's 15 people for four extra progressions!

If the hypothetical martingale described by pig4bill was being played on a table that allowed wagers of $10 - $1500, you could survive 8 progressions with 1 person. With the strategy of adding people, you could get 10 progressions with a team of four people -- or 12 progressions with a team of sixteen.

This must sound like a good strategy to you -- since you keep defending it. And you must believe scenarios like this really concern the management. But why stop there? Think of what you could do with a team of 1024!

Personally, I would just play alone -- and look for a higher limit. But then, I don't understand these high concept strategies.

Thanks.

I haven't defended martingale, It's a losing system.

So since you know so much can you tell me why casinos have table limits?

If you'd like some homework you should go read "Thirteen against the bank".

For many reasons. Primarily to segregate players, and to limit unexpected losses. The table limits definitely limit the number of progressions you can have in a wagering strategy -- but that isn't taken very seriously. Just ask them to raise the limit -- If someone there has the authority, they will.

Laugh if you want -- but I wouldn't do it out loud. Someone might hear you. You've a reputation to protect.
