Default VPIP/PFR%

I'm just a bit curious ...

When you guys are evaluating a player's vpip/pfr% in order to make a read ... how exactly do u compare the two? do you look at them as a ratio in correlation with each other, or do you look at them independently?

How would you assess someone who is 18/12 in comparison to someone who is 20/18?

I really hardly have any experience with this so any feedback is appreciated.

vpip and pfr are used basically as statistics.

For instance :
18/12 just means he plays 18% of hands he is given and he raises 12% of them.

This helps when putting players on hands, as a 30/10 player could easily have 78s when calling a raise but a 12/10 player probably wouldn't. IT is helpful for working out whether you should raise, what you should raise and how you should play certain hands on certain boards.

For instance on a 567 board a 12/10 could only have 44-AA if he decides to continue, whereas a 30/10 player could have 56/67/78/89 etcc etc.

True:

I get what you are saying for sure, but I have a question for you...

Okay so regardless of the statistics, those numbers are not going to mean the same things once we take into account the position of the player we are trying to evaluate and the amount he called/raised.

for example .. .i will play very tight oop but very loose IP

How would you adjust here?

well just kind of factor it a little bit. Im not sure exactly but I would think a 10/5 would be 10/5 from everywhere, I think an 80/50 would probably also be 80/50 from everywhere.

A 30/10 player is probably something like 8/8, 14/8, 30/10, 40/15 and then pretty tight in the blinds like 20/4

I doubt you have enough hands to tell an 18/12 apart from a 20/15. However, you need far fewer hands (200 or so) to identify the 40+ and the 12- VPiPers with a reasonable degree of certainty..
