Default PPL show

Daniel Negreanu's latest blog describes a new show that the Professional Poker League will be putting on coming up pretty soon. Sounds like an interesting show so far, but more details will be nice to find out more about it.

I do know that Evelyn Ng made the cut for PPL Season 1, but Clonie Gowen and Liz Lieu did NOT.

There is a quota on the number of seats reserved for women.

I would assume that Jen Harman and Annie Duke got in, but Kathy Liebert probably did NOT (because she has one of the worst reputations in the industry).

The PPL is basically-positioned as a "PPT-killer", designed specifically so that PPT Season 2 will NEVER see the light of day unless WPTE buys TV time in the US to air the PPT (which I do NOT believe will happen.)

(Needless to say, many of WPTE's enemies are involved in the PPL project.)

Las Vegas Sands Corporation (LV Sands), which is chaired by Sheldon Adelson, the 3rd richest man in the world behind Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, is one of the backers of the PPL.

LV Sands owns the Venetian and the Sands Expo Convention Center in Las Vegas, and is developing the Palazzo on the corner of Las Vegas Blvd. and Sands Avenue (Hence the name Las Vegas Sands.)

LV Sands has a nosebleed valuation in the stock market for one reason and one reason ONLY: Adelson has "bet the farm" on CHINA. The Sands Macau is now the #1 casino in the world in terms of gaming revenue, and the $2.5 Billion Venetian Macau is scheduled to open by the end of 2007.

FYI Oliver, you may want to fix that macro or whatever you're using. Adelson's the 3rd richest person in the US, not the world. World's Richest people. (Yes that list is old (as of 2/06) but I don't think everyone above him on the list dropped below him in net worth).

Dn talked about this a little bit more on his forums, here are the quotes:

[ QUOTE ]
Yes I am a captain. There will also be women in the league. So it won't exactly be the "top 64 players" in the world as certain slots will be given to women. Nothing against the ladies, but there simply aren't 8 women players that would rank in the top 64 IMO. Uh oh, now ladies will hate me too, lol blush.gif

Having said that, it's likely that my co-captain will actually be a lady. Luckily for me, she is a player that would rank in the top 64 easily.

I can assure you of one thing, Ivey and I will not be co-captains. That might be a little unfair to the other teams IMO.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
Btw, the format will play a lot more like a cash game than a tournament. You won't necessarily see a "winner" at the end of each show- at least not in the traditional sense.

Blinds likely won't go up either...

[/ QUOTE ]

Im liking the sound of this show quite a bit.

The Professional Poker LEAGUE (PPL) has officially accomplished its first objective as the "PPT-killer".

I would be very surprised to see the PPT re-surface in the U.S.

As I expected, WPTE will NOT buy its own TV time to air the PPT in the U.S. as long as WPTE is still getting CASH from The Travel Channel to air the WPT. Doing so would devalue the WPT TV product in the U.S. market.

Perhaps the PPT concept might be a better fit when WPTE takes its shot at CHINA in 2008.

I stand corrected with regards to the Professional Poker LEAGUE (PPL).

According to one source, Liz Lieu got IN. Clonie Gowen is an alternate at this point.

Kathy Liebert is definitely OUT.

I also have confirmation that Greg Raymer is OUT.

Seems not all of the WPT enemies got into the league.

What will be interesting is who's actually involved in this thing. Speaking of which, how many of the 64 will be women Oliver, since you mentioned earlier there was a "quota".

Guess it would've helped to read above my post, doh!
