Hellew. Dealers that are not impartial all the time, regardless of the tipping status of a player, should be kicked in the nuts, square. Dealers who pull this kind of crap are the ones that give good dealers a bad name.

Unfortunately, the poker boom has brought in lots of people that don't give a damn about poker, but want to jump on the bandwagon. This really hurts the few dealers (like me) who actually care about poker and have been around since long before the boom.

These days I generously tip dealers who obviously care and are always trying to improve, learn etc. Even a new dealer who's not very good, but is obviously trying to learn and improve, I'll be generous. The ones that are just lumps of flesh sitting around waiting to be toked I tip accordingly.

I don't tip if there's no flop action, even if it's like 500 dollar preflop taken down without flop seen.
My standard is, 100-300 -- 1 dollar tip, 300+ --2 dollar and that's it. You can call me a cheap ass but I don't care. Oh, there's one time at Caesar's where I won a 500 dollar pot and I only tipped 1 dollar to the Korean dealer. Ever since that cheap tip, he started to stare at me for the rest of his time on my table and tossed my cards in the air everytime he dealt me. I went to the floor and had him punished. So, go ahead and complain more about our tips, I don't really care. They didn't choose you to deal for players, YOU CHOSE to be a dealer, so be professional and competent and your tips will come alone the way.

Not sure if you're directing these comments at me, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume these were general comments.

All these tipping schemas are just "like whatever." I understand you can't be a ridiculously huge tipper if you're playing for a living, but it should be a personal choice based on the dealer's merit and whether you appreciate them.

You should also tip and encourage dealers and floors who obviously care about poker and want to do a good job and improve themselves.

Basically I tip $1 for a pot of any size: a couple of limpers or a raise then I take it down on the flop. That's a bit more than some but then I generally never tip more than a dollar even if the pot is huge. For an average dealer dealing Hold'em this should be $25-$30/hour. This seems fair for small stakes.

My thing is I never tip chip runners or the cage. Is this bad? Partially I never think about it at the time and I really don't like giving away a bunch of money.

one dollar no matter how big the pot. If it's particularly small. I usually tip zero. I play 15/30

lastnight I DID tip 3 dollars. The pot wasn't particularly big, but it was the best dealer of all time, and he noticed it right away when the guy shorted the pot on me.

Tipping more than a dollar would significantly affect my takehome. Maybe when I'm playing 40/80 I'll tip 2 dollars, but I think one is perfectly reasonable.

My fav tho was this schmuck who "moved to vegas to play poker for a living." In order to avoid having to tip an entire $1, he brought his own fifty cent pieces. The best part was his claim that this "saved him ten grand a year." Do the math. Assuming he's saving 50 cents a potn that's about 55 pots a day, every day, all year long. Ooooooookaaaaaaaay. He lasted about a month.

So long as you know that most dealers don't make this kind of money, and it does require at least a little training and investment. Learning 3 games and paying for my casino license cost me about 12 weeks and around $1,500 out of pocket.

I would call it a sweet job if it weren't for all the dealer abuse, I mean I like pitching cards and poker and all that. It's a decent job for fast money or someone going to grad school or whatever, but it's pretty lousy for a career imo.

Plus I hear they like urinate on and stab dealers in California
