Default Protein Shake Recipes that don\'t require a blender

Getting back into this whole exercise thing after finishing off crazy hours at work. Anyway.

This time around I'm going to start mixing whey protein shakes into my diet. Already I can see why there are loads of recipes to make them taste a little better... but unfortunately getting a blender at work is way beyond the level of commitment I want to have. So I'm wondering about interesting things to throw in that I can just shake to stir... yogurt... pre-shredded almonds maybe? Thoughts?

I assume you are using the shake as a meal replacment rather than PWO? If so continue to mix with the milk otherwise you want something faster digesting.

i *just* started literally today with the protein shake, today i ate:

6 AM = eggs + cheese on a wrap
8:30 AM = 2 scoops + tablespoon glutamine + cold water
12:00 PM = chili that my coworker made, yum, also a 1/4 seafood salad
2:00 PM = half a chicken / spinach / whole wheat wrap
3:00 PM = the other half of the wrap

plus lots of water that i neglected to mix in here.

should i be mixing with milk?

I start every day with a cup of old-fashioned rolled oats, a scoop of protein powder, and ~3/4 cup of either skim milk or water.

Well it's common knowledge that a suplement is to supplement ones diet. But it is often difficult to eat whole meals or what is required you can;t get from a meal so you turn to a shake. But also a lto depends on YOUR goals, such as BBing, strongman or pencil pusher.

For myself I am a horrible morning person and breakfast is difficult to eat. I grind a cup of raw oats, scoop of whey and mix with water for breakfast, (eat shortly after).

My comment regarding the milk is due to the casein and how it is slower digesting than if it was mixed with water. So for a post-workout shake you should mix with water and a fast digesting carb such as dextrose/maltodextrin which will help combat catabloism and replish the enegry you burned exercising.

For those who drnik a shake before bed mixing with milk can help as it will slow down the breakdown process, again so your body will slow down catabolism before you wake up.
