Default Question about Lee Jones Winning LLHE

Long time lurker, first time thread starter hear. I just recently got into poker and have been making my way through some of the books. I was reading Lee Jones's Winning Low Limit Hold Em at the bookstore tonight. On his section about the check raise, he has a footnote, where he claims that some people object that check raising, or sandbagging, is an unethical poker move. Does anyone know what he is talking about? Who are these people that consider check raising unethical? Where does this comment come from? I've never heard that check-raising could be unethical, and I am quite perplexed. Anyone have a clue?

It is within the rules of any current casino or online game, but is often considered too aggressive for "friendly" home games. Never do it in a home game without getting the rules straight before you sit down.

Old farts don't like it. Almost anyone who started playing poker in the last 5 years understands it to be part of the game.

A player at Party went off on me last year after I check-raised him for the umpteenth time. Looking back, I was actually check-raising too often then (as in it was -EV, not a breach of etiquette), but he wasn't upset that it was a bad play, IIRC. He just thought it was unethical, or some such thing. There's not many around, but these dinosaurs do exist.
